Porcelain Veneers

What is the difference between a porcelain crown and a  porcelain veneer?  According to Wikipedia,  “a veneer is a thin layer of material placed over a tooth, either to improve the aesthetics of a tooth or to protect a damage to a tooth’s surface.”  The key word here is thin.  Porcelain veneers are great for teeth that have little damage or for a patient that wants a cosmetic change.  If  your teeth are permanently stained, worn down,  or even crooked, they can often be repaired with porcelain veneers.  Veneers can close spaces between teeth, even them up, and provide a more uniform appearance.  If the treatment needed is porcelain veneers, an impression is taken and sent to a dental lab to fabricate. The lab will work with you in choosing the perfect shade for a natural smile.  Once they return from the lab, they are permanently bonded to the tooth. Veneers are both natural looking and long lasting.  Composite veneers can be done on a same day appointment with Dr. Haslam. The tooth colored material is bonded to the the tooth to look natural.  The patient below has composite veneers.
